December Blessings

The Princess of Swords: The Season of Winter

At the gate of the solstice, the threshold to winter, the Princess gazes upon the sunless horizon firmly grasping the sword of discrimination. Harvest has passed, the seeds of the last cycle have fallen and the future is pregnant with new possibilities. However, it is time for introspection and self-examination to mature the mental faculties. Nature is dormant and dark, yet at the turning of the gate the solar force begins its ascension. This card augurs new ideas and strategies, as well as more considered approach to communication through the process of reflection.

The Princess of Swords reflects an abundance of energy, passion, and enthusiasm. This card represents new ideas or projects that you are excited to get started. There is a lot of energy surrounding these new ventures or journeys in life. This card is encouraging you to move forward with these ideas and to follow your own passions. Take that first step to move forward, you will be happy that you did!

December Challenges

The King of Cups: Cardinal Water

Honoring the crab of Cancer, the King of Cups acknowledges he is anointed as its deputy. Master of the watery realm, the king is open to its natural tides, aware of the floods and storms of emotions, the intensity of feelings, and the responsibilities of relationship. Embodying these mature feelings allows him to be adept at counseling and caring, deeply loving and paternal, or highly imaginative and creative. However, the waters of feeling also contain the wounds and severed feelings from broken attachments. When card appears the individual is called to master the emotions that dominate the personality.

The King of Cups represents emotion, creativity, and the unconscious. As you deal with some of life’s challenges, draw upon those deep emotions to help guide you through. This card is an indication that you must find balance within these emotions. It’s important that you don’t repress your emotions and allow it to take over. Explore these emotions and allow them to work for you. Be considerate and compassionate towards others. Be careful when dealing with negative energy from others. Create those healthy boundaries, not allowing the energy of others to consume you.

Actions To Consider

From the severed head of the Gorgon Medusa the winged horse Pegasus was born. Released from the curse Athena had placed upon his mother, Pegasus accepted his place on Olympus. Underpinning the myth is the conflict between Athena’s rational intellect and Medusa’s vulnerability. Similarly, the astrological correspondences of Mercury and Aquarius suggest enlightened perceptions and far-sighted-ness, however these may also eclipse feelings of resignation and uncertainty. The card suggests that clarity of thought emerges out of a difficult situation when darker feelings of conflict or a sense of vulnerability and uncertainty have been acknowledged.

The advice of the Five of Swords is to pick your battles. You might be tempted to fight every battle that comes your way but that is not the best action to take. Choosing your battles wisely is a healthier way of life. Not only will it lead to a more peaceful life but it will also strengthen your relationship with others. Sometimes the best course of action is to just let it go and leave it up to the Universe to decide. Don’t waste your energy on things that are out of your control.
